Easy DIY Basket Organizer

Mudroom Catchall

So we have this awful habit of throwing all of our stuff onto the counter and table as soon as we get home.  In a matter of an hour or so, we completely cover the table in our junk and then have to turn around and clear it off when it’s time to make and eat dinner.  And while our new table is much bigger than the one we had before, it is still nice to have it cleaned off. Mudroom Catchall Since we’ve redone our mudroom, we have been trying to make it as functional as possible and trying to incorporate as much storage as we can.

I got the idea to throw something together when I was perusing the storage section at Hobby Lobby for some inspiration, I picked up some baskets that would be about the right size.  I already had the hooks in my stash, so I dug those out.  Now I just laid out the items on a 12×1 board to get the right size figured out.  Sean cut it to size and I got started making it the right color!  After staining the board, I threw a thin coat of green milk paint on the top.  Once it dried, I sanded it off until I got the desired look.  Then I applied a little dark wax to a few parts of the board just to give it some extra character.

Mudroom CatchallOnce everything was dried and finished, Sean mounted the baskets and hooks, then put it up on the wall for me!  So now we have somewhere to store the keys, sunglasses, wallets, gloves, scarves, and all the other junk we end up tossing on the table!

All together I spent about 20 bucks on the baskets and the wood (before it was cut down) cost about $10 for a 8 ft board.  This can easily be done in an afternoon AND you get to personalize it with whatever colors, baskets, and hooks will match your decor!  Good luck!
