Industrial Meets Farmhouse

Well everyone, its been awhile for us!  Between work craziness, the hubby getting a new job, car trouble, a trip to Europe, 5.9 million loads of laundry, approximately 6 books I just “HAD” to read, and that funny smell in the bathroom wall…you get the picture, its been crazy around here.  BUT summer is FINALLY upon us!  That means baseball games, fresh cut flowers, time at the lake, bonfires, and you guessed it…projects!!  So in the past few weeks, I have been going on a Pinterest rampage…with Mr. Hubby’s new toys tools he has been more than willing to take on new projects to “practice” his craft.  Of course this is wonderful news for me since I ALWAYS have a project in mind to either put in our home or try to sell.

I had long been in love with the farmhouse/industrial combination so I’ve been looking for ways to incorporate it into our house.  The main thing I noticed with this particular style is that they incorporate a stained (not painted) wood and dark metal piping.  I decided a single shelf with a towel bar beneath would be the best option for the spot I had picked.

When I finalized what I wanted, I gave my vision to Sean and he began to sketch and make all the plans and materials list.  After the list was made, we had a “date” to pick out the piping and he took care of the rest.  The nice part of working with hardware like this is that you can get basically any width/length/connection combo you could think of.
I never actually realized how easy it would be to put something like this together, so it was a nice change for us since we have been used to projects that require a bit more assembly skills (Sean’s not mine).  Now that its up, I think I should have changed the length between the shelf and the actual rack to be a bit shorter to lessen the amount of negative space.  But nonetheless I am so thrilled with how it turned out!
